WEATHER FORECAST FOR 29 April 2024

The Intertropical Convergence Zone (where winds from the Northern Hemisphere and Southern Hemisphere converge) is affecting the island’s weather.

Showers or thundershowers will occur at several places in Western, Sabaragamuwa, Central, Southern, North-western, Uva and North-central provinces and in Ampara district after 1.00 p.m. Showers or thundershowers may occur at a few placeselsewhere in the evening or night.

Heavy showers above 100 mm are likely at some places in Western, Sabaragamuwa, Southern and North-western provinces.

Misty conditions can be expected at some places in Sabaragamuwa and Central provinces during the morning.

General public is kindly requested to take adequate precautions to minimize damages caused by temporary localized strong winds and lightning during thundershowers

WEATHER FORECAST FOR SEA AREAS AROUND THE ISLAND DURING NEXT 24 HOURS

Issued at 12.00 noon on 28 April 2024.

   Condition of Rain:
Showers or thundershowers will occur at several places in the sea areas around the island in the evening or night.
Winds:
Winds will be south-easterly or variable in direction in the sea areas around the island. Wind speed will be (20-25) kmph.
State of Sea:

Increase of swell waves (about 2.0 – 2.5 m) can be expected in the sea areasoff the coast extending fromBalapitiya to Pottuvil via Galle and Hambantota. These sea areas can be fairly rough at times. The other sea areas around the island will be slight.

Temporarily strong gusty winds and very rough seas can be expected during thundershowers.
