WEATHER FORECAST FOR SEA AREAS AROUND THE ISLAND DURING
NEXT 24 HOURS (Issued at 1200 Noon on 10th December 2013)
The severe cyclone “MADI” in the Bay of Bengal still persists and located about 850 km to the North-east of Jaffna. Under the influence of the system showery and windy conditions are expected to continue over the North-eastern deep sea areas.
There will be intermittent showers or thundershowers in the North-eastern deep sea areas beyond 450km from the coast extending from Trincomalee to Jaffna.
Winds will be North-westerly and speed will be 30-40 kmph. The deep sea area beyond 400km from the coast extending from Trincomalee to Jaffna will be very rough and dangerous as the wind will be strengthening more than 80kmph at times. The sea area off the coast extending from Trincomalee to Mannar via Jaffna and the southern deep sea areas beyond 250km from the coast extending from Galle to Pottuvil may be rough at times as the wind can be strengthening up to 50-60kmph at times. The other sea area around the island may not be rough.
